Description

95 points Decanter
"The original blended Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas is now available in two cuvées: Font des Bosquets (young vines, shorter ageing, no oak) and Réserve (older vines, 14 plots vinified separately including fruit from the top single vineyard sites, maturation in different types of oak for 18 months depending on the variety). The result is an extraordinary exercise in elegance, beautifully silky tannins and deeply vinous fruit. This is long, shapely and tapered with depth, freshness, elegance, and a seamless character. If the alcohol was marginally better integrated this would possible score higher. It's quite an expressive, almost showy wine, but it will be excellent when it's ready. Not as strongly characterful as each of the single vineyard expressions, but better balanced, and more quintessentially Gigondas. In organic conversion."

"Leading off the 2018s from bottle, the 2018 Gigondas Réserve is a mix of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, and can be thought of as the classic cuvée of the domaine. It’s beautifully done and shows the style of the domaine in its full-bodied, rich, yet also elegant profile. Offering a mix of red and black fruits, herbes de Provence, peppery garrigue, and flowers, this beauty is flawlessly balanced, has a round, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and just tons of character. Drink this little gem any time over the coming decade."

93 points Wine Advocate
"Although I reported differently last year, the final blend of the 2018 Gigondas is approximately 65% Grenache, with the rest a mix of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault (in descending order of preponderance). Gentle notes of bay leaf and thyme accent purple raspberries on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied and generous, showing supple, silky tannin's and surprisingly crisp acids on the finish."

93 points Wine Spectator
"Fresh and lively, with a ripe core of dark cherry and blackberry fruit leading the way for dried garrigue, singed apple wood and dark licorice notes. Best from 2022 through 2032. 3,300 cases made, 200 cases imported."

Jancis Robinson
"45% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah, 10% Petite Syrah, 5% Cinsault. Aged for 18 months in concrete and old oak. Tank sample.
Tasted blind. Syrupy black fruit with lovely richness and depth, and high but digestible tannin. Classic southern Rhône intensity, with soft corners making it very drinkable. Long spicy length. Pure pleasure, with lip-smacking savoury bite on the finish. 17/20 points. (RH)"

Vinous Reverie Notes
Domaine des Bosquets is a property that has a long history in Gigondas. It is first mentioned as a lieu-dit associated with viticulture in a document from 1376. Its association with the vine continued into the 17th century when the Seigneur de Laval, a local provençale aristocrat established a farm and vineyards on the site of the current property. Some of those buildings survive there to this day. The estate is 26 hectares in total. Grenache is the primary variety with small percentages of Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault. The estate is farmed sustainably which is not difficult given the gentle climate in the shadow of Mt-Ventoux. The vineyards are tended by hand including harvesting. The grapes are destemmed when the reach the entrance of the recently build subterranean cellar. Fermentation and maceration occurs in stainless steel tanks and the wine is aged in barriques, demi-muids and concrete tanks.
