Description

91+ points John Gilman, View from the Cellar
"The 2019 Gigondas Promesse bottling from Domaine les Aphillanthes is made from a blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvedre, with the vines ranging from sixty-five to seventy years of age... The wine is fermented and aged in concrete vats and is bottled unfiltered, with the 2019 coming in listed at 14.5 percent alcohol this year. It offers up a deep and complex bouquet... On the palate the wine is full-bodied, ripe, broad shouldered and nicely tangy, with a good core and soil signature, ripe tannins, fine focus and a long, complex and chewy finish that closes with just a bit of backend warmth...Good juice. 2032- 2075."

91 points Jeb Dunnuck
"Almost all Grenache (there are usually small amounts of Mourvèdre and Cinsault) that's raised in tank, the 2019 Gigondas Promesse exhibits a vivid purple hue as well as a great nose of pure red and black raspberries, spring flowers, cedary spices, and chalky minerality. It's medium-bodied, has a pure, elegant, layered mouthfeel, fine yet present tannins, and a good sense of freshness on the finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. It's going to keep through 2031."

Vinous Reverie Notes
Domaine Les Aphillanthes from Travaillan has the special capability of jolting us into appreciation of the Cotes du Rhone region. Grower and winemaker Daniel Boulles terroir driven southern Rhone wines are exemplary models of perfect fruit and minute yields. His approach is to focus on the quality of the fruit in the vineyards together with minimal intervention in the winery. Certified Organic (ECOCERT) and Biodynamic (Biodivin). The Gigondas "Promesse" is from 65-70 year old vines, situated on the north side of Gigondas, toward Sablet, and entirely on high elevation terraces. Predominantly Grenache, with the balance being Cinsault and Mourvedre. All aged in concrete tanks. No filtration.
