Vinous Reverie Notes
Welschriesling, which is better known as Grasevina in Croatia, is not actually related to Riesling at all. Welsch is a German word which means “coming from Southern Europe” which is definitely not where Riesling is from. The soils and microclimate around Neusiedler See in Burgenland were found to produce particularly expressive wines from this very rare variety.
Winemaker Notes:
At the beginning of the grape harvest we set out every year to harvest the Junger Welschriesling. Only ripe, fully aromatic but not yet too sweet grapes are selected for this wine. The fermentation takes place slowly and very carefully to preserve the delicate aromas of the Junger Welschriesling. In only a few weeks, a youthful, light, highly aromatic and fresh young wine is produced which is bottled and ready to drink in autumn.
Aromas include honeysuckle, jasmine, narcissus, gardenia, citrus blossoms, white grapefruit, and white peaches. Flavors include honeydew melon, white grapefruit, yellow apples, pear, kiwi, starfruit, and a hint of cherries. There is a medium body, perfect balance and acidity, and a refreshing medium finish.
Food pairings would include sole, shrimp, crab, scallops, halibut, red snapper, swordfish, clams, calamari, seafood pasta, salads, and soups, paella, veal, pork, chicken, white meats with creamy sauces or mushrooms, Asian pork, chicken, seafood, noodle, and vegetable dishes, creamy yellow curries, dishes with coconut milk, Mexican chicken and seafood dishes, enchiladas, tacos, tapas, green salads, and mild to medium cheeses.
