Description
92 points John Gilman, View from the Cellar
"The Legrand family have been winegrowers in Saumur since the seventeenth century, but Clotilde Legrand became the first female vigneronne in her family when she took over the reins of the family estate in 2014. She makes beautifully classical examples of Saumur-Champigny, with her 2019 les Terrages bottling offering up a superb aromatic constellation of dark berries, a touch of cherry, currant leaf, espresso, cigar ash, chalky soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, focused and full-bodied, with an excellent core of fruit, superb mineral drive and grip, ripe, firm tannins and great length and balance on the long, complex and very classy finish. This is outstanding juice that is certainly approachable today, but in reality, still on the young side, and a bit of bottle age will pay handsome dividends. Most impressive. (Drink between 2025 - 2055)"
