Description
92 points Wine Advocate
"The Toro red 2017 Gago comes from a vintage affected by spring frost that wiped out some vineyards and an end of the season that was very warm and dry and pushed the pH up. The wine is riper than usual, reflecting the conditions of the year. Eighty percent of the wine matured in oak foudre, the rest in barrique, for a period of 14 months. It has the Toro character and rusticity, with a solid palate and abundant, slightly dusty tannins. 23,484 bottles produced."
Vinous Reverie Notes
The distinctive red soils produce a Tinto de Toro (the local clone of Tempranillo) with tremendous fruit concentration, ripeness, acidity, tannins and structure. Gago is the wine Telmo has used to discover and understand the vineyards of Toro, a pure wine that eschews oak and showcases fruit. The Telmo Rodriguez wines in Toro are named after a Spanish breed of bull that is both elegant and powerful. The 19th century lower-case “g” typeface that appears on all the Toro wines is transformed, and modernized, by a bull horn.
