Description

92 points Decanter
"Vinified in Chablis by leading producer, Samuel Billaud, this is a blend of fruit from Chablis and the Maconnais. It is fermented in steel and aged on its fine lees for six months, giving crisp, clean, lemon notes, a Chablis-like acidity, and a little texture from the Maconnais component."

Burghound
"A ripe and fresh nose speaks mainly of citrus and melon scents. The round, rich and supple flavors possess an attractive mouth feel though only acceptable depth and persistence..."

Jancis Robinson
"Very nice label. Creamy citrus ripeness with a riper, more southerly style (apparently the fruit is from both the north and the south of Burgundy as he has so little fruit in 2016 and needed to make an extra wine). Chewy, dry and beautifully balanced in the fresh style of the vintage. Relatively GV (good value) (JH)"

Vinous Reverie Notes
Bourgogne d’Or was created in 2016 because severe hail damage in Chablis limited Billaud’s crop. Billaud still wanted to make an entry-level Burgundy, so he added some grapes grown in the north of Macon. The Bourgogne D’Or is vinified in the same cellar as the rest of his wines and with the same attention and passion. This wine presents a good balance between fruit and minerality, with tension of Chablis balanced by the ripeness of southern Burgundy. Tasting Notes: Perfect for pre-dinner drink with gougères. Ideal with oysters, crustaceans or white fish like cod and pollock. Also good served with sushi.
