Description

Jancis Robinson
"Pale, youthful ruby. A truly cool-climate nose with raspberry, cherry and leafy notes. Fresh, elegant raspberry fruit with super-fine tannins. Light of touch and long. Quite gorgeous. 17/20 points. (WS)."

Vinous Reverie Notes
Giorgio Melandri is the creator of Mutiliana, a wine project aimed at enhancing all the peculiarities of the Sangiovese vine in the small but large Modigliana sub-area, within Emilia-Romagna. His sensitivity and knowledge of the world of wine (he was a taster for the Italian Wine Guide for years) led him to bottle three Sangiovese crus, symbol of the three valleys of the area. The red range is completed by this Ecce Draco, a pure Pinot Noir which best expresses all the characteristics of the great vine from the Romagna Apennines. Giorgio believes a lot in different territorial expressions and demonstrates this through the production of authentic wines, highly drinkable and elegant, never predictable and of great character despite the fact that finesse is not lacking in any label. We are in the Tramazo valley, one of the three valleys of Modigliana where Giorgio Melandri grows his grapes. In this case, it is a small vineyard of about 20-year-old Pinot Noir vines grown at 600 meters above sea level. It was planted by the oenologist Francesco Bordini on behalf of a South Tyrolean who decided to buy land in the Apennines. The planting was done with cuttings with Burgundy genetics designed to produce subtle wines with little color. The rows are in the middle of the woods, the soil is rich in sandstone, the temperature range is not lacking (one of the highest vineyards in all of Romagna): all this leads to a unique microclimate, which is found entirely in the glass. Tasting Notes: Starts with small berries, continues with a very delicate, very elegant spicy touch, and then ends with beautiful floral notes of rose and violet. The acidity is well integrated with the material and gives freshness and energy to the wine.
