Description

90 points James Suckling
"This has aromas of sour cherries, pomegranates, raw mushrooms, thyme and peppercorns. It's fresh and fruity with a medium body and fine tannins. Juicy, with a nicely meaty and savory finish. Drink now."

Jancis Robinson
Vines at 350 m near Heraklion. Fermented in tank and then aged 12 months in 1,500-litre and 3,000-litre oak casks.
Light cherry red. Light aroma of red cherry, both fresh and dried, invitingly bitter-sweet. Deliciously dry, slightly leathery tannins. Needs more time to show the perfumed, mature Liatiko character but this is fresh and lively now. Long, too, for a seemingly lightish wine. A food wine par excellence, though the tannins are smooth enough that you could drink this on its own if you are OK with tannins. If you can possibly buy more than one bottle and keep one for a few more years, you will be rewarded by Liatiko's silky, mature complexity. 16.5+/20 points. (JH)”

Vinous Reverie Notes
The winery is located in the village of Dafnes near the city of Heraklion, Crete. The area has a rich history of winemaking and viticulture. From grandfather to father and then to grandson, the Douloufakis family has been involved in viticulture and wine production for three generations. In 1930, Dimitris Douloufakis became one of the first winemakers in Crete to produce wines professionally in his traditional, old winery. Dimitris’s grandson, Nikolas, now runs the winery carrying on his grandfather’s traditional practices but with more modern equipment and facilities. The privately owned vineyards are certified 100% organic and span over 70 acres of hillside land. Crete has a long history in viticulture and also has been established as a Protected Designation of Origin for Liatiko wines. A unique variety, that dates back to the 3rd and 2nd century BC. As it has perfectly adapted to the warm climate of Crete, Liatiko manages to create delicate wines, full of finesse.
