"This new brand from Zaca Mesa focuses on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and this countywide Pinot blend is a stunner. Aromas of rainy slate, pomegranate and hibiscus roll into a palate of sumac, red fruit and light game that sizzles with acidity."
Vinous Reverie Notes
For over 45 years, Zaca Mesa's Cushman family have been trailblazing viticulture within Santa Barbara county, mostly focusing on Rhone varietals like Syrah and Grenache. TREAD is the new endeavor dedicated to showcasing the diversity of Santa Barbara's cool-climate Burgundian varietals: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir grapes for this cuvee came from some of the best vineyards including: Bien Nacido, La Encantada and Our Lady of Guadalupe. Tasting Notes: A beautifully dynamic balancing act between bright red fruit flavors and scintillating spice. On the nose, notes of strawberry-rhubarb compote and dried rose petals are followed by attention-grabbing notes of allspice, a signature mark of the Santa Maria vineyards in the blend known for their “Santa Maria spice.” With a sip, silky tannins glide across the palate and prime it for layered notes of black cherry, dried cranberry, and a whole host of lingering red fruit flavors. The experience is topped off with a hint of graham cracker crumble on the finish.
