Description

91 points Falstaff
"Deep crimson with ochre reflections and a broad and bright rim. On the nose, hints of strawberry jam and cherry compote, with some cassis in the background, delicate nougat, and a subtle herbal spice. The palate is medium-bodied with red cherry and a subtle hint of minty chocolate. Fresh and lingering this is a savoury food wine."

90 points Wine Spectator
"This sanguine red opens with a layer of roasted coffee bean flavors, which join a core of cherry tart before fanning out around mineral-laced acidity. Picks up details of cinnamon-accented chocolate, showing nice length around firm tannins. Drink now."

90 points James Suckling
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva Houssonet from Pirque, Alto Maipo, was aged for 12 months barrels. Garnet in color, the nose offers blackcurrant and cedar with a hint of bay leaf. In the mouth, it's compact with grippy tannins and intense flavor. The fruit takes charge toward the end where a delicate oaky layers emerge."

Vinous Reverie Notes
Haras de Pirque is located in Pirque, center of Chile, one of the most prestigious and renowned areas of the Maipo Valley for vineyards, at the foot of the Andes Mountains. The Maipo Alto area is between 500 and 800 meters above sea level, an area with a temperate thermal expansion with native vegetation of myrtles that give the wines balsamic characteristics. Thus, the wines produced in this area contain a high concentration of tannins, great structure and intense color. The climate is semi-arid Mediterranean, highly influenced by the proximity of the mountain range and the Pacific Ocean anticyclone that appear through the open valley, giving the region characteristics that allow for unique climatic interaction. Rainfall is seasonal and mostly concentrated between June and August. The position of the vineyards and the shape of the territory determine a temperature difference between day and night of 20°C. This difference provides slow ripening and consequently excellent grape quality. The soils in which the vineyards are planted are of colluvial origin; a consequence of volcanic eruptions in the area, which explains the differences in soil textures and structures, with clay soils being the most present. Tasting Notes: On the nose, notes of cinnamon, bay leaves and mint merge with herbaceous sensations and toasted notes that express Maipo Valley’s fresh character. The palate is soft with pleasant tannins that offer aromas of red fruit and chocolate.
