Rhone

It is in the north of the Rhone Valley, around Vienna, that was born the first great French wine, or rather Welsh, the allobrigicum, well known to the Romans. 2000 years later, these same granite hillsides still offer the country some of its greatest wines: Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Condrieu, Cornas. In this part of the valley, sometimes steep slopes, Syrah reigns supreme and produces intense red wines, structured that defy time. The white wines come from the viognier (Condrieu) or from an assemblage of marsanne and roussanne. Beyond Montélimar, the Rhone Valley is expanding and we are entering the Mediterranean world. The omnipresent vine extends on terraces and hillsides on both banks of the river. Syrah gives way to Grenache Noir which reaches under a generous sun a full maturity. Often assembled, it is the charm of the great wines of the South of the Rhone Valley through its wines (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas ...) and its regional appellations. The region also produces rosés of character (Tavel), sweet and fragrant whites and some rare mutated wines (Rasteau and Beaumes-de-Venise).
