Description

92 points James Suckling
"More like a light red with fine bubbles in the mouth. It’s medium- to full-bodied with plenty of dried strawberries, mineral, nutmeg and spices with ginseng. Orange peel. A blend of 65% pinot noir, 15% chardonnay and 20% pinot meunier. A blend of mostly 2020 with some 2019 and reserve wines. Drink or hold."

91 points Vinous
"The NV Extra Brut Grande Vallée is a blend of 65% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Meuneir and 15% Chardonnay harvested in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Mutigny, Epernay, Avenay-Val-d'Or and Festigny, 45% of the blend is from the 2019 vintage, 30% from 2018, both aged in oak, and 25% reserve wines kept in foudre. Golden color leads onto an earthy, expansive nose that has an overtone of ripe red bell pepper and juicy plum, with an oxidative edge from wood ageing. The palate is lighter than either color or nose suggest, flowing with inherent juiciness on a body that has traction and Pinot structure, but also bright freshness. Individual and surprisingly light. Dosage is 2gr/L. Disgorged: first trimester of 2022, Lot GV221."

Vinous Reverie Notes
R. Pouillon Grande Vallee Brut is a blend of multiple vintages, blending parcels from the communes of Avenay, Épernay, Festigny, Mareuil, and Mutigny. It's predominantly Pinot Noir (65%), with 20% Pinot Meunier and 15% Chardonnay. Unusually, instead of a combination of yeast and sugar being added to referment the base wine, Fabrice uses unfermented grape juice. Tasting Notes: The champagne is brightly fruited with abundant creaminess, revealing enticing florals and a chalky texture in the mouth. On the nose, we get subtle hints of ripe fruits (blackcurrant, black cherries) and almond paste, quickly followed by the complementary aromas of Mirabelle plums and peaches on the second attack. Its finish is a delicious combination of roasted and sweet spices. Food Pairing: It’s refreshing acidity and complex flavor profile make an excellent complement to seafood, cheese or simply to be enjoyed on its own.
