"Garnacha, Tinta del Pais; from Toro but not a DO wine.
Light wild-strawberry colour. Quite a potent nose, red-apple skin and beeswax. The palate shows some lovely honeyed notes as well as a savoury edge – it is really fresh and clean with quite firm tannins. It finishes with an almost Fino-esque nuttiness. Intriguing and delicious. 16.5/20 points. (AC)"

Vinous Reverie Notes
The goal with the Paramos de Nicasia Clarete is to renew a centuries-long tradition of making vinous pink wines by blending the free run juice of both red and white grapes. The resultant style leans decidedly towards the white side of the spectrum and is far more ageable, durable and serious than most pink wines – this is why we prefer to call this style Clarete, rather than Rosado. Etymology aside, the Clarete from Maquina Y Tabla is sourced from their 8 hectare vineyard located outside Villaester within the D.O. of Toro. Called Pasiego, this site is a mix of 50-60 year old, ungrafted vines of Tinta del País, Garnacha and Malvasía on a sandy soil over a clay limestone subsoil. The color of this wine comes from the natural hue of the free run juice of a blend which is roughly equal parts of the three varieties found in Pasiego.
