"Once again, Poggerino’s Piero Lanza puts out one of the most successful annata of the vintage thus far. His 11 hectares in Radda sit mainly on Galestro soil with an underpinning of clay rather than sand, giving seriously structured wines. Dense fruit and spice greet the nose, with glossy dark red cherry, mint and cinnamon following through on the palate. Impressive substance is backed up by chewy, layered tannins, gracious rather than austere, dissolving slowly into the crunchy currants that draw out the finish. Vibrant and impressive."

"The 2022 Chianti Classico is a pretty rich wine for Il Poggerino. It shows the heat and dryness of the year in its intense dark red fruit. Even so, Piero Lanza has done a terrific job of avoiding the hard tannins that penalize other wines. This plush, open-knit Chianti Classico will drink well right out of the gate."

Poggerino's wines are produced organically, exclusively from their own grapes, and every step of wine production is carried out by the owners themselves. The owner, Piero Lanza, believes in an almost fanatical attention to vineyard work. His goal is to set the stage for healthy vines, and ultimately, beautiful wines, by caring for the land holistically, in rhythm with the seasons, and as custodian for its natural biodiversity and richness. The results are healthy grapes with the highest degree of concentration and ripeness, perfectly reflective of their unique Tuscan terroir. Tasting Notes: Ruby red color with notes of blackberries, cherry, leather, and red currant touched by vanilla and licorice spice.
