Description
94 points Vinous
"The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Argillières 1er Cru comes from Rion’s largest parcel of 1.8 hectares, currently undergoing piecemeal replanting using a massal selection program. This has a fragrant bouquet of red berry fruit, loamy earth and discreet woodland scents that unfold with each swirl of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins. This feels very harmonious, a little opulent in style toward the finish, but deftly kept in check by the tertiary notes from the whole bunches. Quite peppery on the aftertaste. Excellent."
94 points Jasper Morris
"Richer fruit on the nose after a solid deep purple. The plums appear alongside the raspberries, with a svelte weight of fruit right across the palate, just the right degree of oak behind, and impressive length. A classical Clos des Argillières in the riper idiom of current times."
Vinous Reverie Notes
The Domaine currently farms 6 ha. focused in the Nuits Saint Georges and Chambolle-Musigny appellations, and works with growers in other 1er Cru vineyards in the Cote de Nuits. The approach to viticulture in all vineyards is rigorous with vines that are pruned short and bud selection kept very low. The vineyards are farmed without herbicide, preferring to plow and hoe as a way to control weeds. Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Argillieres - From the top of the slope opposite the domaine, the vines are in poor brown soil on base of pink Premeaux limestone. 50 year-old vines. Blackberry, wild juniper. Minerality.
