Description
91 points Jeb Dunnuck
"A joyful wine, the 2021 Rosso Di Montalcino is exuberant with poppy aromatics of candied cherry, flowers, and cinnamon and is bursting with notes of ripe mixed berries and fruit cocktail. Medium-bodied, with a soft texture and almost Grenache-like ease, on the palate, it reveals notes of wild raspberry and herbes de Provence. It is a lovely wine to drink over the next 6-8 years."
90 points Vinous
"Dark, animalistic and nearly feral, the 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is impossible to ignore. Crushed ashen stones, musky red currants, earth tones and grilled herbs can all be found. It's softly textured with a pretty inner sweetness and masses of mineral-drenched red fruits. Grippy tannins define the finale, yet the mouth is left watering for more as this finishes structured yet still remarkably fresh."
Jancis Robinson
"A certain richness on the nose, with notes of cherry, leesy notes and saline minerality. Long, sandy tannins and intense but fresh and elegant fruit. Endowed with considerable aging potential. 17+/20 points. (WS)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
This 100% Sangiovese Grosso is planted to one hectare of 60-70 year old vines. The grapes are harvest by hand the first week of October. They are then crushed and transferred to tank by gravity. They endure 15 day maceration / fermentation period (29C) with frequent punch-down of the cap during the first week to promote extraction. The wine is then racked 2/3 times until March, when it is transferred to oak. It is then aged 3-4 months in Allier and Slavonian botte. 5% of free-run juice is removed to encourage concentration.
