Description
95 points Wine Enthusiast
"A reductive, yeasty funk still hangs over citrus notes on the nose of this wine. On the palate, the concentration, power and ripeness of the wine are made clear. Zesty and driven, it brims with ripe lemon peel and pleasantly bitter pith in a focused, energetic package. The intensity is immense. While thrilling now, the wine will only get better. "

"Kirrenbourg used to be Maison Martin Schaetzel (established in 1852) but was bought by construction businessman Marc Rinaldi in 2015 and was renamed Kirrenbourg. Nine months in stainless steel – no oak, old or new. Tartaric acid 6.07 g/l, RS 5.41 g/l.
The nose has a creamy start topped with masses of complex florals: tiny blue flowers, lime flowers. Tightly coiled at first, compact, and then it starts to sinuously unfold and the sweetness of the fruit peals out like church bells. Cherry sherbet and beautiful, dripping-ripe peaches whorl into cashew cream, creamy oat bread and cardamom spice on the finish. An expansive, generous wine begging to be drunk. 17.5/20 points. (TC)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
This cru might legitimately be called Brand New, the original Brand being a tiny cru of little more than 7.5 acres. In 1924 it was expanded to include surrounding sites: Steinglitz, Kirchthal, Schneckenberg, Weingarten, and Jebsal, each with its own fine reputation. By 1980 it had grown to 74 acres and it is now almost double that. This confederation of lieux-dits is one of the most magnificent sites in the entire region, and the quality of the wines are consistently exciting, especially the great Rieslings. Tasting Notes: The nose expresses a fruity aromatic palette as pineapple puree and pink grapefruit. The mouth is complex with a delicate freshness.
