Description

90 points Wine Enthusiast
"An eclectic mix of Abouriou, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah come together in a fruity, juicy wine, bright with succulent acidity and freshness. The wine's grape chorus sings well and will be ready from 2024. Organic."

90 points James Suckling
"A fresh, aromatic red with notes of ripe berries, flowers, licorice and dried orange peel. Medium-bodied, soft and polished with lingering, velvety tannins. Juicy and fruit-forward with hints of earthiness in the aftertaste. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

Vinous Reverie Notes
If you have not heard about the niche appellation sitting just below Bordeaux's Southern border, you are not alone. It goes by the name Cotes du Marmandais and until recently this landscape was more renowned for deeply colored three-star-Michelin-bound tomatoes than it was for wine. Most of what you see planted here is the expected Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Sauvignon Blanc, but the fun begins when growers make wine from the local Abouriou varietal. Eleanor of Aquitaine (then Queen of England) ordered monks to plant the first vines on this 72 hectare estate in 1150. The property stretches over the right bank of the Garonne river across the hillsides of Saint Michel de Lapujade, and benefits from the mild and humid air that rises up from the sea and travels down the Garonne valley. Pierre Boissonneau purchased the property in 1839, and descendants Christian, Pascal, Phillippe, and Nico have transformed it into one of the best places south of Bordeaux. Tasting Notes: Bouquet of fresh blackcurrant fruit, with a good intensity of flavors. A full-bodied and well-balanced wine, rich and concentrated. Food Pairings: Pair with red meat, game, stews, spicy food or s cheeses (like Epoisses or Pont l'Evêque).
