Description
95 points James Suckling
"So much candied citrus, angelica, dried sage and thyme in the nose! However, this compact and highly structured Alsace Grand Cru dry riesling is still very youthful and really needs a lot of aeration (decanting and big glasses!) to open it up. Stunning complexity of fruit, herbal and mineral character at the imposing yet very cool finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2025."
95 points Vinous
"Grown on various parcels, mainly in the gypsum soils, the 2020 Riesling Schoenenbourg Grand Cru was vinified in stainless steel. It has a peppery, earthy, herbal aspect that soon verges into ripe peach and dried lemon peel. The vivid acidity of the palate seems buffered by layers of chalk. All the precision and coolness of the soil is there, making the mouth water, enticing you to take another sip of this sleek, energetic wine. Bone-dry."
Jancis Robinson
"Full bottle 1,395 g. Certified Ecocert organic and Demeter biodynamic. ‘Se goûte sec’ on the back label in tiny letters.
Pale gold, with density and substance; the structural presence and breadth that is so compelling in Alsace Riesling. A rumble of thunder – smoke and gunpowder – overlaid with orange and sweet-melon fleshiness. The sweet scented lift of lemon verbena, lemongrass and jasmine. Emphatic and complex. Long, textured and still tensely folded into its youth. I would love to see how this ages. 17.5+/20 points. (TC)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
From the gypsum and sandstone soil of the esteemed Schoenenbourg appelation, overlooking the villages of Riquewihr and Zellenberg. Aged on fine lees in stainless steel.
