Description
94 points Falstaff
"Vigorous ruby red with purple edges. On the nose fragrance of cherries, blackberries, savoury notes in the echo. On the palate powerful with vivid acidity, fine-meshed, still youthful tannins, fruity finish, nice length."

"From the artists' series, the organic Nittardi 2021 Chianti Classico Casanuova di Nittardi La Doghessa shows rich, warm-vintage fruit with sweet berry, baking spice and toasted almond. The wine offers nice intensity over a balanced mouthfeel with plenty of dark fruit definition. It closes on a sweet note with dry oak tannins. The label artwork is by American film director James Ivory."

"Full bottle a light 1,182 g. Pure Sangiovese from the single vineyard Vigna Doghessa in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti. The vineyard lies on a south-east-facing hill at 450 m and has a soil full of schist stones. The artist label changes every year and this year is the work of James Ivory. Spontaneous fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, followed by 14 months in used French oak barrels (500 litre), four months in concrete and a subsequent few months in bottle. Certified organic (IT-BIO-004).
Deep ruby red. Much more stony/mineral than the Gran Selezione 2020 just tasted, smells lighter and more fragrant. Elegant, succulent even with the extremely dry and fine tannins. A triumph of restraint and finesse yet with energy and dark-red fruit at its core. A little bit spicy/savoury but not in the least oaky. A wine of real beauty and full of subtle pleasure. Long, slightly stony/mineral finish. 17.5/20 points. (JH)"
