Description
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The Torraccia del Piantavigna 2013 Ghemme is a blend of 90% Nebbiolo and 10% Vespolina. The wine presents a very beautiful bouquet with subtle floral aromas behind dried cherry and blackberry. The flavor profile is tart and sour, reflecting the cool vintage and the slightly evolved nature of the wine. You might notice a hint of crushed white pepper on the finish."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Ghemme is a tiny appellation – only 73 180 acres – in the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geopark area, situated at the foothills of Monterosa. The area enjoys vast diurnal temperature changes, due to the cool winds from Monte Rosa, which favor lovely and persistent aromatic properties. This wine boasts exceptional longevity and is a wonderful alternative to Barolo and Barbaresco thanks to its elegance, heightened aromas, balanced acidity and vibrant tannins. Blend: 90% Nebbiolo, 10% Vespolina. Tasting Notes: Very fine on the nose with violet and almond notes hitting first followed by hints of red fruit. The palate is full-bodied, yet velvety with mature tannins and a pleasant finish marked by slightly bitter and balsamic notes.
