93+ points John Gilman, View From The Cellar
"Jean-Paul Brun’s 2018 Morgon is another excellent example of the vintage. This is riper than in most years (I would guess in the fourteen percent range, the label notwithstanding), but also pure, defined by its underlying minerality and already beautifully complex on both the nose and palate. The nose wafts from the glass in a refined blend of cherries, pomegranate, spitroasted gamebird, granitic minerality, vinesmoke, fresh thyme and a bit of incipient spice tones from the whole clusters. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and beautifully defined by its minerality, with a lovely core of fruit, ripe, buried tannins and a long, complex and tangy finish of impeccable balance. This is a touch heady by the standards here, but that is the nature of the 109 2018 vintage, and Monsieur Brun has made a beautiful bottle of Morgon in this year. 2023- 2055+."

"From vines in Bellevue, the 2018 Morgon wafts from the glass with aromas of red plums, mulberries, smoked meat and spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a rich, layered core of fruit, powdery tannins and lively acids. This comes warmly recommended."

"Opaque magenta. Powerful, smoke- and mineral-accented blackberry, cherry, floral oil and licorice aromas pick up a hint of earthiness as the wine opens up. Juicy and penetrating on the palate, offering concentrated red and dark berry preserve, cola and candied violet flavors that turn sweeter through the back half. Shows fine clarity and solid grip on an impressively long, mineral-driven finish framed by steadily building tannins."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Importer: Two parcels of Morgon go into this bottling, one on the famous Côte du Py hill and one in a different climat, both having sandy, decomposed-granite soils. The vinification is traditional Burgundian. The grapes are rigorously sorted and destemmed, crushed and fermented with indigenous yeasts and no sulfur. Maceration lasts about 4 weeks in concrete vats; aging is also in concrete, for 10 months for the Morgon (the longest along with the Moulin-a-Vent), before bottling with gentle filtration and a small addition of sulfur.
