92 points James Suckling
"Outstanding intensity of blackberries and blue slate on the nose. Medium body, round and juicy tannins and a succulent, savory finish with orange-peel undertones. Subtle pinotage. Drink or hold."
Vinous Reverie Notes
100% Pinotage. Terroir wines in the narrowest sense of the word are finally the Springfontein Crus identified as “Single Vineyard”. Evidently, the grapes here come from a selected, precisely defined and controlled parcel. In order to achieve such a status, such parcel must stand out among the plots of land in its surroundings, be it through extraordinary concentration in the soil, be it through the specific orientation towards the sun, be it through the peculiarities of wind or weather, so that it is really worthwhile to make the greatest effort to work out this very special characteristic by hardest oenological labor. The specific vines are (almost) constantly exposed to very strong and cool breezes from the Atlantic Ocean. The soil is very shallow, and the vine roots literally grow into limestone rocks. These extreme conditions result in Pinotage bunches and berries that are nearly half the size of regular ones. Tasting Notes: Due to natural fermentation, this wine has a more intense and more complex aroma profile. The wine is rich, full bodied with attractive dark red fruit, subtle oak spice, and sweet nuances of caramel and vanilla.
