"This grows at the Eguren family’s estate vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, where the vines and then the long aging took this wine into a realm of pure deliciousness. It starts from a tight focus on black fruit and tobacco smoke, then builds to a crescendo as that fruit expands into violets, red apples and fresh blackberries, completely saturated and yet not at all heavy, with a refinement that makes the wine feel welcoming and open. Decant it now for a wine that’s hard to resist."

"This shows the ripeness of the vintage with plum and rose-petal aromas and some wood. Full-bodied and chewy with a combination of grape and wood tannins that give a roasted coffee-bean texture and flavor to the ripe fruit. Lightly dry at the finish. Drink now."

"The 2011 Gran Reserva is 98% Tempranillo and 2% Graciano, aged 26 months in American and French oak barrels. It has a classic nose of ripe black fruits, chocolaty oak, roasted herbs, and cedarwood. Rich, powerful, and concentrated on the palate, it has ripe yet building tannins, remarkable purity of fruit, and a great finish. This classic, old school, complex Rioja will drink brilliantly over the coming 10-15 years."\
Vinous Reverie Notes
The Tempranillo comes from old proprietary vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra of the Rioja DOCa, and were all planted before 1980 upon calcareous clay with gravel. The fruit is entirely hand-harvested before a careful selection occurs on a double sorting table. Fermentation occurs under temperature control vessels with indigenous yeast, before the wine ages for 24 months in French and American oak, of which 25% is new.
