The historic heart of the Tuscan vineyards is located between Florence and Siena and corresponds to the production area of Chianti. South of Siena, the history has also sealed prestigious wine areas, placed at the highest level of the Italian wine hierarchy (DOCG), Vino nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino. It is however in a coastal part, the Maremma, that the renewal of the Tuscan wines was manifested, that from the 70's. This dynamic took place on the fringes of the legislations in place, distinguishing itself above all by the use of imported grape varieties, with cabernet sauvignon in mind. Winning an international audience, the wines of this movement were baptized "super Tuscan" but officially relegated to Vino da Tavola until the creation of a category of reception.
