Description
90 points Wine Advocate
"Made by Piero and Benedetta Lanza, the Poggerino 2018 Chianti Classico shows clean and classic lines with small berry fruit, cassis and wild raspberry that fall together with delicate precision. As the wine warms in the glass, it begins to show some crushed mineral or limestone with light ash and smoke. The finish is lean and silky and would be well-accompanied by a plate of rolled-up mortadella, prosciutto and capocollo."
90 points Wine Spectator
"A straightforward, appealing style, this balanced red displays cherry, plum, almond and spice flavors, lingering on the finish. Drink now through 2024. 3,750 cases made, 1,100 cases imported."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Poggerino's wines are produced organically, exclusively from their own grapes, and every step of wine production is carried out by the owners themselves. The owner, Piero Lanza, believes in an almost fanatical attention to vineyard work. His goal is to set the stage for healthy vines, and ultimately, beautiful wines, by caring for the land holistically, in rhythm with the seasons, and as custodian for its natural biodiversity and richness. The results are healthy grapes with the highest degree of concentration and ripeness, perfectly reflective of their unique Tuscan terroir. Tasting Notes: Ruby red color with notes of blackberries, cherry, leather, and red currant touched by vanilla and licorice spice. Sweet and persistent tannins.
