Product Description
Jancis Robinson
"In Galicia but outside any specific DO. Continental with Atlantic influence. Granite and mica with lots of quartz. Blend of young Sousón and old-vine field blend. All their wines are 100% whole bunch and around 2 months’ gentle maceration.
Mid cherry red. Smoky, lightly reductive and a touch meaty. Smoky perfume. Gorgeous combination of dark-fruit intensity and high acidity. Rocky and dark but still fruity. Pure and long, the tannins definite, as you'd expect from Sousón, but beautifully ripe. 17/20 points. (JH)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
Known by various names throughout the northwestern corner of the Iberian peninsula – most notably as Vinhão in both Vinho Verde and the Douro – Sousón goes by the local name of Tinta País in much of Galicia. Dark in color and high in acid, unblended, domesticated Sousón is a work in progress with Curro and Jesús so it comprises only 60% of the blend in Lazacán with the remainder being a 60-80-year-old field blend from various sites. Their Sousón comes from the village of Grixoa situated on the west bank of the Bibei, so just south of Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras. As such it is bottled as a Vino de España.
