"Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Roriz from Vinha da Pisca, Vale do Pinhão and Ferrão. Vines more than 70 years old. A difficult vintage with lower sugar levels in the grapes at harvest. Aged 4–6 years in large wooden vats.
Deep crimson. Intense dark-red fruit with deep spice, almost Christmassy in cinnamon and nutmeg. Cherries and celery salt. Finest of dry tannins, so elegant and harmonious. This is a great way to enjoy a vintage-style port without having to wait for ever. Gently chewy, velvet but with tannic structure at the core. Then dry tannic finesse on the finish. One of the most elegant LBVs I have ever tasted. 17/20 points. (JH)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
Winery: Grape Varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Roriz. Our LBV is aged for 4 to 6 years in large wooden vats. The winemaking and ageing methods were chosen to match the selection of wines which make up the LBV: full-bodied red Ports stemming from a single vintage. LBV or Late Bottled Vintage is a category of Port wines which became popular in the 60s, filling the gap between Ruby and Vintage Ports. The extended ageing period of the LBV allows it to show a rounder and mature character –this wine can therefore be enjoyed young, soon after bottling. Tasting Notes: With a wonderfully concentrated ruby hue, this Port shows intense aromas of fruits of the forest, spice and dark chocolate, accompanied by a subtle floral undertone, making this an overall elegant and deeply expressive wine. The palate is fresh and seductive, with good texture and body. Superbly smooth tannins and a lively acidity provide a long, firm and vinous finish. As this is a traditional unfiltered LBV, it is definitely suitable for further cellaring.
