92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"I tasted a tentative sample of the 2019 Semillon, taking some 20% from barrel. It was a great harvest, with a very slow and long ripening cycle that kept moderate alcohol and good acidity. This is still very young and raw, but there is a citrus freshness. This seems to be a year that combines power and freshness, concentration and elegance, and it seems to have the ingredients to develop nicely. The plan is to bottle it in September 2019, with at least six months élevage. Very promising."

"The tenth vintage for a Semillón that pioneered a new wave in Argentine winemaking. Oenologist Roberto de La Mota makes it with grapes from Paraje Altamira, 20% fermented and aged in French casks (300 to 500 liters). A moderately intense yellow, the 2019 Semillón Mendel presents subtle, attractive aromas of honey, hazelnuts and apricot. Full-bodied with energy and flavor, the velvety feel is enhanced by a refined freshness. A wine with which one is quick to make friends."

Semillon is a grape with a long history in Argentina that many winemakers are now rediscovering in old vineyards. Roberto de la Mota was a pioneer of this trend, reviving a 70-year-old vineyard in Paraje Altamira from which he produces this fragrant white with a nose of lime, green apple and honey notes. Its elegant but sharp texture makes it the ideal companion for seafood or paella."
"Vineyard at 1,100 m. Planted 1955 ungrafted, and added to in 2012 with the same genetic material but a very small component. 2009 was the first vintage. Before that the grapes were sold to Chandon for fizz! 20% fermented in new, large French oak barrels.
Recognisably waxy plus a green streak. Great structure and appetising note. Really opens out on the finish. Long and rich but dry on the end. Wonderful satin texture. Long. 17.5/20 points."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Mendel Semillon is the maximum expression of these old strains in Argentina in a tranquil wine. In the nose it shows typical notes of white flowers and honey, also some herbal notes and tropical fruits. The oak ageing makes the wines more complex, lending coconut and hints of smoke, as well big volume and softness in the mouth. Mendel Semillon is a complex, elegant and agreeable wine.
