94 points James Suckling
"Wonderful ripeness to the fruit, which ranges from peach to melon, as well as a lovely fresh-mint note. Very classic and precisely balanced, the natural grape sweetness right in the background. Long and fresh, wet-stone finish. Drink or hold."
93 points Mosel Fine Wines
"The 2020er Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Kabinett was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar. It offers a gorgeous nose of white flowers, mint, cassis, whipped cream, lavender, orange blossom, smoke, and grilled spices. The wine proves superbly delicate and finely juicy on the palate, where the fruit has an extra ripeness level (not unlike that of a Spätlese in complexity and presence), yet the focus and balance truly remain at Kabinett level. The finish is superbly persistent. Only a touch of creaminess in the aftertaste needs to melt away, something which will happen in a decade or so. This is a great Kabinett in the making! 2030-2050."
Jancis Robinson
"There is a distinct difference between the three Kabinetts, and the Abtsberg evokes the image of an abbot with wide girth, ie the fuller body. The same can be said for the flavour, where the taste of orange reflects slightly riper fruit, but is never lacking in zest, and with a subtle nuance of bitter lemon, if that mundane association may be allowed. Smidgeons of butterscotch and cinnamon may be far-fetched, but add to the overall complexity. 17.5/20 points. (MS)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
The Absteberg vineyard within Ruwer is extremely steep with up to a 70% slope and has an ideal southern exposure which makes it the warmest of the Grünhaus sites. The soils are predominately blue slate with a topsoil which is lighter than the estate's other locations. The vineyard is organically farmed and the vines average in age at 40 years old. After the grapes are selectively hand harvested at Kabinett level ripeness they undergo native yeast fermentation in stainless steel and used Fuder casks. Tasting Notes: Aromatically the wine has notes of petrol, honeysuckle, citrus zest and orchard fruits. On the palate the wine is delightfully fruit forward, with matching orchard fruit flavors as well as a bracing minerality.
