"This well-balanced and full-bodied wine packs a nice punch. It shows concentrated fruit and spice flavors, with an appetizingly firm texture. Moderate tannins lift tasty blackberry, black pepper and rosemary notes. It's made from mostly Zinfandel, plus Petite Sirah and Syrah." *Editor's Choice*
Vinous Reverie Notes
Winery: River Song Vineyard Planted 1987 - 77% Zinfandel; Berghold Vineyards Block 71 Planted 2011 - 18% Petite Sirah; Berghold Vineyards - 5% Syrah. Planted in 1987, the River Song Vineyard is north across the river from our winery in Victor, right in the heart of the best Zinfandel region of the world. We think this is a good case study for keeping these essential (“essenzo”) 32-year-old vines in the ground. You can see your fingers through the garnet red, but the wine is full-bodied and pleasingly round. Big black cherry, Boysenberry jam, maybe black olive, and bittersweet cocoa form the core of this juicy experience. Black fruits linger on a long, impressive finish. Food? How about just firing-up the grill and put a good sear on a New York steak, using the wine as your sauce. You don’t need anything else.
