Vinous Reverie Notes
Winery: Bechthold Vineyard Planted 1886: 85% Cinsault. Borra Vineyards Gill Creek Ranch Planted 2001: 15% Syrah. The Bechthold Vineyard is regarded as the oldest continuously farmed source of Cinsault in the world, planted on its own roots in 1886, when Grover Cleveland was President, Coca-Cola was invented and the Statue of Liberty was dedicated. Similar to Pinot Noir, you can easily see your fingers through the brilliant ruby red. And on the nose are complex red fruit and gravel aromas. Tasting Notes: Very smooth and surprisingly mouth-filling with nice slightly chalky tannins under a layer of wet gravel minerality. Those are under yet another layer of black fruits like plum and licorice and a growing, very lasting finish of dark chocolate and blackberries. The oak comes off more as an added touch of cedar. This is one of those special wines that looks and smells light red, but tastes bigger and blacker.
