"A touch of peony plays on the ripe cherry fruit of the nose. The palate adds a touch of cinnamon to these enticing aromatics and seamlessly weaves its sinuous, slender but concentrated way across the palate. This is elegant, moreish, fresh and shows just a little grip. It bridges the gap between easy charm and structured poise."

"Deep dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate edge brightening. Fresh berries, red cherries, a hint of orange zest. Juicy, lively structure, red berry nuances, mineral and persistent, cherry finish."
Vinous Reverie Notes
For red wines, Markowitsch is in a class of his own amongst Austrian producers. His vineyards, in Carnuntum are ideally situated on a slope approximately equidistant from the Danube River on one side and the Neusiedlersee on the other. The soils are sandy loam and limestone (perfect for reds) and he does not irrigate. He is equally famous for his rare cuvées of Pinot Noir, Rosenberg blend, and his ultimate “M” cuvée, as he is for his value cuvées, Rubin Carnuntum and Carnuntum Cuvée. This wine is marvellous with game dishes, or beef every way imaginable – boiled, grilled, sautéed, stewed or raw as carpaccio. Fresh parsley or coriander support the lively nature of the wine.
