92 points Vinous
"The 2018 Fiano Kratos shows a rich and alluring display, leading off with ripe peach and sweet floral tones, as hints of lime zest, sweet cream, and white smoke lift from the glass. On the palate, silky, nearly-oily textures envelope the senses in a coating of ripe stone fruits with subtle sweet spices, all backed by brisk acids as inner florals, hints of mango, and even a note of banana evolves toward the close. The finish is long, buzzing with energy, as citrus-infused minerals and resonating acids cut through its lingering, ripe fruits and make for a spicy finale. Wow!"
"Layered, concentrated spicy pear and lemon nose. Layered viscous lemon palate with a fine citric vein that lasts and lasts. Very pretty wine. 17/20 points. (WS)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
Luigi and Raffaella Maffini first bottled Kratos in 1996 using fruit from a small family vineyard planted in the 1970s. They gradually grew their estate to 15 hectares, and have gained more plaudits with every subsequent vintage. Cilento is a coastal area south of Naples protected by a national park designation, and has been recognized as a World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Maffini’s wines are equally distinctive, crafted with an eye to terroir, minerality and elegance. The vineyards lie in two distinct zones: the first overlooking the sea near Castell’abate, the second in the hills of Giungano near Paestum. Tasting Notes: Deep straw yellow in color. Exotic fruit, kiwi and honey to the nose. Soft and balanced to the taste with an ending of flowers and dried apricot.
