Description
Jancis Robinson
"A blend of Schiava with 2% Lagrein and 3% Pinot Noir aged for 23 months in large oak casks and 24 (!) months in bottle.
Mid to deep ruby. Distinct and beautiful red-fruit nose of wild strawberry, sweet raspberry, just a touch of undergrowth, liquorice and iron. Just a suggestion of oak and displaying a clear, cool alpine edge and conveying a clear Schiava message: elegant, lithe and subtle palate with superfine tannins. Long, sappy and focused. Now in its eighth year and just reaching its peak. Out of the window goes the myth that Schiava can't age. 17.5/20 points. (WS)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
For many years Hartmann Donà was the lonely voice extolling the virtues of schiava, reminding his colleagues that a century before, Schiava was considered the equal of Pinot Noir. Elegant, deep, long and spicy. This historic, radically different image from that of Schiava today, is the inspiration behind the Schiavas of Donà. A gentle and careful processing in the cellar and the addition of 2% Lagrein and 3% of Pinot Noir complete the idea of Donà Rouge. It is a red wine with great character, spicy and soft, very harmonious.
