Vinous Reverie Notes
Grans-Fassian estate is situated in Leiwen on the Mosel River, in the center of the oldest German winegrowing region, adjacent to one of the largest and most beautiful Mosel River bends. Grans-Fassian is one of only 30-VDP producers in the Mosel, which is the highest quality designation in the region and is tantamount to a "Grand Cru" designation. The steep slate slopes, mostly facing south, rise above the sheltered river valley. The vineyard soil is rich in minerals and combined with the warm weather zone creates the perfect microclimate for the Riesling grape. In 1982 Gerhard Grans took over the estate from his father Matthias and began steadily increasing the once 10 acre estate to its present 24 acres. Today, his daughter Catherina works with Gerhard and will become the 13th-generation of family winemakers. In 2024, Grans-Fassian will celebrate their 400th year of contiguous operation at the same estate.
