"Administered by Lauriane André, the daughter-in-law of Françoise, the owner, this 7.09 ha estate is one of the last to house its cellar and vat room (dated 1899) within the ramparts of Beaune. They offer a premier cru with an intense lemon yellow color, with grilled and citrus scents, round, woody and with good length in the mouth, a saline finish concluding the tasting. Drink this fall with a seafood risotto."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Burgundians Françoise and Michel André founded Domaine Françoise André in 1983. They refurbished the traditional family chais in the walled city of Beaune and began to acquire parcels in some of the best terroirs of the surrounding hills. When searching out their vineyards, Françoise looked for cooler sites on the upper slopes of the côtes with old vines, preferably of massale selection, and younger soils with a high proportion of limestone. She knew that it was here, in the vineyards, that she and Michel could produce the elegant, mineral-driven style of wines that have since become the trademark of the Domaine. By the mid-90s, they had transitioned to biodynamic farming and firmly established a reputation for producing fine wines of elegance rather than power and or weight. They were, for example, the first producer in Burgundy to bottle their Chorey-les-Beaune blanc. After twenty-five years of hard work, Françoise and Michel had realized their dream of producing wines that reflect a care of land, people, and place, or as Françoise would say, “we are now very happy to drink our own wines.” Tasting Notes: Such glorious color, this first-class chardonnay simply bursts with golden light! One then enjoys the fine fragrance of small flowers found near low stone walls: May blossom, wild rose, and Lady’s-slipper. Its broad start on the palate then gives way to a bracing effect.
