"Full bottle 1,315 g. 75% Grenache, 25% Syrah. Sourced from eight hectares of old vines, with an average age of 50 years, managed by the Ch de Beaucastel team. The vines are situated to the south of the Dentelles de Montmirail where the soil is rich in clay and sand with stony terraces. The grapes were harvested by hand. On arrival at the cellar, the grapes were sorted, crushed and put into vats where fermentation was quite long and manual punching down aided extraction. After malolactic conversion and blending, the wine was predominantly aged in oak foudres with 20% aged in used oak barrels for a year before bottling.
Transparent garnet. There is some delicacy here and beautiful lift with sweetness and spice as well as a certain herbiness. I've always loved this really rather refined wine and if anything it seems underpriced. Unlike the Nature Côtes-du-Rhône, the tannins are well in the background and it's the fruit that speaks, and charms. Long. GV *good value*. 17/20 points."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Famille Perrin’s Vacqueyras is a beautiful example of Grenache based wines from the Southern Rhône Valley, with an impressive aromatic expression, structured body and great ageing potential. The vineyard is located south of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Stony terraces on clay and sandy soils. Produced on a very clayey terroir with stones from the Ouveze river, the Grenache is dominant and develops a fleshy wine. It's typical aromas of chocolate, cherry and fig match beautifully with the Syrah (violet, spice, liquorice).
