Jancis Robinson
"Full bottle 1,275 g. Proof that Walter Massa does not have a monopoly on Timorasso. The Borbera Valley is in the Apennine area of Piemonte on the border with Liguria, Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy. Ezio and Mary Poggio started to recover old farms and plant new vineyards in 2003, and the Terre di Libarna subzone, a special mesoclimate which includes the Borbera and Spinti valleys, was recognised as part of Colli Tortonesi DOC in 2011. Their vineyards are at 400 m with clay-limestone the dominant soil type. Maritime influence from the Ligurian Sea encourages a high diurnal temperature range. These vines grow on a south/south-west-facing site that is in conversion to organic viticulture. Made in tanks and aged for 12–14 months on lees with some bâtonnage.
Light nose has the characteristic 'burnished metal' character of Timorasso. Good fruity attack on the front palate and great balance. I know from experience that Timorasso can age well and I suspect this example will too. Grip and persistence. And good acidity. Real texture here."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Ezio Poggio is a true “personaggio,” unflinchingly devoted to the revival of one of Italy’s great white grapes, Timorasso. Ezio first planted the grape in 2004, reestablishing a long-lost growing zone now known as Terre di Libarna along the mountains that separate Piedmont from Liguria. At 15 hectares total, this small but mighty DOC encompasses the highest elevation growing region for Timorasso. Ezio’s daring decision to grow Timorasso at altitudes of nearly 2,000 feet is without peer, and his unique vision for the grape has yielded wines of ineffable beauty. Archetipo Timorasso - There are some products which are the clear manifestation of a territory. This huge wine represents the temperament of an autochthonous vine variety: it is wild and elegant in the meantime, elusive and reluctant to reach a compromise. Tasting Notes: Bright straw yellow. Intense mineral with notes of citrus fruits and species. The main peculiarity is its acidity: it is full-bodied, flavorful, structured and persistent.
