Jancis Robinson
"Pale greenish straw. Bright and fresh. Finely etched. Really quite sweet. 17.5/20 points."
Vinous Reverie Notes
The vineyard name, Wehlener Sonnenuhr translates to 'The sundial of Wehlen' and is famous throughout the Mosel for its steepness as well as the rocky, blue Devonian slate soils. The wines that hail from this vineyard consistently show racy minerality and elegant structure. The vines age averages around 70 years on their own original rootstocks, and are farmed sustainably. This bottling has more richness and body than Kabinett because the grapes are allowed to ripen for an extra week or more. The extra hang time on the vine allows for greater development of flavor and aroma. Tasting Notes: Aromatically the wine rushes forward with scents of ripe melon, juicy orchard fruits, and a hint of smoke. The palate is full of ripe tropical fruits laced with lush, but not heavy sweetness, wet stone and a finish of salty minerality.
