“Deep ruby. Herbal, camphor and graphite notes dominate the dark berry aromas on the nose. Bright, fresh and juicy in the mouth, showing a tactile mouthfeel and inky nuances to the dark berry flavors. Finishes with chewy tannins and very good but not outstanding length.”
“There’s an old-school vibe to this dry, medium-bodied red, firmed by angular tannins and offering tobacco, dried cherry, and fig cake notes. Drink now through 2020.”
Vinous Reverie Notes
This wine is made with 100% Aglianico grape. The most sought-after productions of Aglianico del Vulture come from the vineyards located in and around the extinct volcano Mount Vulture. The soil here is naturally volcanic and the altitude is 500-550 meters above sea level, two conditions that are ideal for the Aglianico grape. Recent DNA analysis have proved that Aglianico from Campania (Irpinia) and the Aglianico from Basilicata are indeed the same varietal. Tasting Notes: Intense ruby red verging on garnet with aging. The bouquet on the nose is intense with the typical varietal notes of wild berries and prune, developing towards more complex notes of cacao, cinnamon, tobacco, rose pepper, and menthol sensations with time. The sip is dry, rich, full, with lively tannins when young, becoming softer with age and exceptionally harmonic after a few years. Food Pairing: Ideal with rich and robust meat dishes, such as beef stews, Osso Buco and Lamb Shanks. It pairs well also with spicy sausage and other barbecued meats, game dishes, pasta with meat ragu, and hard and sharp cheeses, such as Taleggio or Pecorino.
