94 points John Gilman, View from the Cellar
"The Sur La Roche bottling from Domaine Guerrin is produced from fifty-five year-old vines, that sit high up in this stony limestone vineyard, situated right at the base of the Roche de Vergisson. This is a cool and very windy terroir, which no doubt was a serious advantage in the hot summer of 2018. The Guerrin family ages this wine in twenty percent new oak, and the 2018 version offers up a lovely nose of delicious apple, pear, almond, a superb base of limestone minerality, honeysuckle and a discreet foundation of buttery oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and beautifully soil-driven, with a great core of pristine fruit, bright acids and outstanding focus and grip on the very long, complex and perfectly balanced finish. This is nicely ripe, but also precise, mineral and racy. Stellar juice! (Drink between 2020-2040)."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Perched on the high slopes of the rock Vergisson , this unique terroir is affirmed by its high altitude and especially by a soil formed by white limestone stones. Another feature of this terroir are the strong gusts of easterly winds that preserve an excellent balance in the wines. Entirely hand-harvested. Slow and gentle pneumatic pressing. A very slow fermentation in oak with only indigenous yeasts used for about 3 months. Aged on the fine lees in oak barrels of 228L and 400L (20% new barrels and barrels of 1 to 5 vintage-used) with batonnage twice times a month depending on the vintage.
