93 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The 2020 Morgon Château Gaillard derives from a one-hectare parcel of old massal selection vines located within the climate of Douby and in its first year of organic certification. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, raspberries, plums and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with ripe but youthfully chewy tannins and a long, sapid finish. It's a fine addition to the domain's range of singularly age-worthy Morgon bottlings."
Vinous Reverie Notes
2020 was the first vintage of this wine. The Château Gaillard lieu-dit lies in the climate of Douby, which is in northeastern Morgon near the Fleurie border, and used to be folded into the entry-level Desvignes bottling called "La Voûte St. Vincent". Their Gaillard parcel is 1.03 hectares of 80-year-old, south-facing vines on sandy granite soils. Viticulture and vinification are consistent across all Desvignes wines. The vines are certified-organic and harvested by hand. The clusters go through a semi-carbonic maceration in open-top concrete vats, with a submerged-cap maceration of 10-14 days. A very small amount of sulfur (1-2 grams/hectoliter) is added after malo and sometimes at bottling. The wine is aged in concrete for about 7 months and bottled with a light, non-sterile filtration.
