Vinous Reverie Notes
Chateau Lagrange Pomerol has been part of the Christian and Jean-Pierre Moueix family portfolio since 1953, when it was purchased from the Pecresse family who also owned Chateau Trotanoy at the time. The property is situated on the northern plateau of Pomerol neighboring many of the greatest producers in this small appellation. The vineyards, now 9 hectares, (and half this size in 1990) is planted on deep, very old clay soils perfectly suited to Merlot, which naturally comprises 95% of the blend. The vineyard work is meticulous, with a hand-harvest completed in a few hours once the grapes have achieved perfect ripeness. The result in bottle is a concentrated and ripe style Pomerol with exceptional balance and subsequent age-ability. The 1990 continues to surprise and impress tasters with added complexity woven around a core of youthful elegance. An excellent opportunity to enjoy a well-matured Pomerol from the prodigious Moueix family, at only a fraction of the price of its illustrious neighbors.
