Description
92 points Vinous
"The 2017 Chianti Classico will delight Castell’in Villa fans. No, it is not a repeat of the 2016. Let’s get that out of the way. Instead, readers will find a silky, wonderfully nuanced Chianti Classico that is ready to charm right out of the gate. All of the estate signatures are present, but the 2017 benefits from a bit more immediacy because of the warm growing season. Sweet red cherry, cedar, tobacco, sage and dried herbs linger nicely. The 2017 is a gorgeous Chianti Classico. Best of all, it will drink well upon release."

"Castelnuovo Berardenga. 100% Sangiovese.
Youthful mid ruby. Balsamic complex nose of cherry with hints of camphor and garden herbs. The palate is still surprisingly closed and in need of more bottle age. Bags of attractive, gravelly tannins and with plentiful acidity one wouldn't expect in this torrid vintage. Firmly structured and the fruit is still hibernating, so patience will be needed. 17+/20 points. (WS)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
The Castell'in Villa wines are always released one to two years after most of their peers. They are one of the oldest estates and have wines in their cellar dating back to 1971. Sourced from some of their eight different sites in the southeast corner of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Alluvial soil with pebbles and sand.
