92 points James Suckling
"Attractive red-plum and vibrant cassis notes lead to a palate that has much fresher fruit with a peppery edge, too. The delivery of tannin and spiced berry flavors on the palate is on point."
90 points Jeb Dunnuck
"Lots of spices, plums, blueberries, peppery spice, and cedar emerge from the 2017 Primitivo Porcospino. Medium-bodied, fresh, and lively on the palate, with surprising elegance."
90 points Vinous
"Briary, slightly medicinal red and darker berries, licorice and dried herbs on the nose, plus a whiff of dried plum. Sweet, pliant, fruit-driven wine with noteworthy energy and spicy lift. Still, this is a distinctly savory manifestation of its variety, perked up by a note of black pepper. More tannic than the Barbera and Sangiovese bottlings, this penetrating wine finishes with good length. Incidentally, Brennon Leighton noted that the 2018 CasaSmith reds are mostly between 14% and 14.5% alcohol, or a bit lower than the '17s, explaining that in 2017 he had to wait for the acids to go down as nights were generally cool in September and October."
