90 points Vinous
"Brilliant straw. Anjou pear, melon and tangerine scents, with a suggestion of chalky minerals. Taut and nervy on the palate, offering lemon pith, pear skin and herb flavors that flesh out on the back half. Shows good clarity on the persistent finish, which features repeating mineral and floral notes. Drinking window: 2021 - 2025."
Vinous Reverie Notes
The history of one of Galicia’s finest varietals, Godello, is linked to the winery Valdesil in the mountainous sub-zone of Valdeorras. The current proprietors', the Prada family, ancestor was named Jose Ramon Gayoso. He planted the first small parcels or “Pezas” to his beloved Godello in 1885. This first planting was called Pezas Pedrouzos, and in the ensuing years, Gayoso continued to plant pezas in and around the village of Portela all on slate based, hillside soils. Montenovo means "fresh mountain" which is reminiscent of this cool mountainous region and climate. The godello here is simply fermented and bottled fresh with a tiny bit of CO2 left giving the wine the full expression of godello in a very fresh, youthful and vibrant way.
