92 points James Suckling
"Dried honeysuckle, poached pears, daffodils, dried yellow apples and jasmine punctuate the nose. The palate, however, is where it’s all happening. Full-bodied and very rich and spicy, this still manages to pack in an impressive serving of acidity. Drink now."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Jancis Robinson - Previous Vintage Review
"In 1989, a group of winemakers decided to return to viticulture, this was the beginning of a great dream. Starting with a small production in the municipality of Muskiz, the winery moved to Gernika, in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. ‘Itsasmendi’ means sea and mountain in the Basque language; with respectful work, they imprint such character to their wines. The first bottles of Itsasmendi 7 were produced in 2003. 45% Hondarribi Zuri, 39% Hondarribi Zerratia and 16% Riesling from different plots. Grapes are carefully selected. Matured on its lees for several months in stainless steel. In magnum.
Tasted blind. This wine suggests a promising future for the wines of Bizkaiko Txakolina. Beautiful and delicate nose showing petrol, chamomile, elderflower, apricot and stony character. It has zesty acidity but the overall palate is mellow. Very delicate and supple. Long and intense, it is one of the best Txakolis I have ever tasted. 17.5/20 points. (FC)"
Made since 2003 with two goals: to make a Txakoli that firstly has more body and structure using select grapes to accompany the exquisite gastronomy of the Basque Country and that secondly can last several years ageing in the bottle, like other vinicultural areas with highly regarded white wines. This Txakoli is broad and unctuous on the palate, where the acidity drives the ripeness with balance; it starts out powerful and flavoursome and matures in the bottle to acquire harmony, complexity and elegance with the passage of time. A Txakoli that transmits the variables occurring with each year of vintage with its own personality. Enjoy its evolution and possibilities for laying down. Itsasmendi 7 2017 - Cold year in September and rainy, botrytis has hampered the harvest and has required changes in processing. Natural, complex, in constant evolution and full of diversity as the same Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve where it is made. 13.5% alcohol, fresh and ripe. Aromas of white fruits and white and yellow flowers, grapefruit, scrub, chamomile and slight nuances minerale more delicate than the 16. To enjoy its evolution in the bottle and storage possibilities for 4-5 year.
