91 points Decanter
"Elegant nose of pure plums, dried tomato, paprika and damson. Quite dense with well-integrated oak, ripe fine-grained tannins."
"From the Upper Calchaquí Valley. Old vines – some of the blend comes from older parcels (planted between 60 and 150 years ago), others are newer parcels. This bottling is a blend of their vineyards. The mid-range Malbec from this innovative producer.
Very distinctive cordite nose. Massive and lively mountain character. Pure fruit. Long and savoury. Quite different from Mendoza fruit with firework impression. Stony dry finish. GV 17/20 points."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Winery: Wines of distinction have been crafted at Colomé, located in the upper Calchaquí Valley in the Salta region, since 1831. Sustainability is a key part of the farming practice for all of the estate vineyards that grow the world’s highest elevation Malbec. Four estate vineyards are blended in the Estate bottling to achieve the best expression of Malbec, Argentina’s best known grape variety. La Brava Vineyard sits at 5,740 feet and yields intense and ripe fruit. Colomé Vineyard surrounds the winery at 7,545 feet and lends complexity and weight. El Arenal Vineyard at 8,530 feet gives elegance and freshness to the blend and Altura Maxima at 10,207 feet gives floral and mineral notes with fine grain tannins. Tasting Notes: Colomé has the highest vineyards in the world. Higher altitudes offer much more sun, much less UV protection and produce a thicker skinned grape that delivers a more robust taste with fresh acidity to support it. Enjoyable upon release, this Estate Malbec will continue to reward with cellaring for several years. Bright and intense in color with beautiful aromas of blackberries, red fruits and exotic floral notes, this wine delivers aromatics that entice the senses. A full lush entry of ripe and rich black fruit surrounds spiced oak notes and hints of pepper. Fresh acidity supports big, bold tannins and wonderful complexity.
