"100% destemmed, aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels. From a single 0.36 ha site in the Hengst grand cru. 1,700 bottles produced. Packaged in a very swanky wooden box.
Mid garnet with better colour depth than you associate with most Alsatian Pinot. Excellent red fruit on the nose, which has that mulchy, decaying quality, like compost. Sweet vanilla scent too, but only on the fringes. A really enticing nose! Dry and really quite firm tannin on the palate with succulent, tangy fruit still reverberating, then a meaty, smoky style on the finish. Long and intense with firmness and weight that makes this much more Burgundian than Alsatian, and surely has the potential to age another 10 years at least. A marvel. 17.5/20 points. (RH)"
Vinous Reverie Notes
Philosophy: Domaine Barmès-Buecher produces wines that are a true reflection of their vineyards, thanks to high-quality grapes, grown with care and respect. The wines reflect the delicate relationship that connects the vine, terroir, vintage and man. We therefore prefer to use manual growing practices in order to respect the vine and terroir and to limit the amount of mechanical work carried out in the vineyards by using lightweight machinery to reduce the effects of soil compaction. The use of animals for traction has been reintroduced in our Grand Cru Hengst parcel. Our approach is based on ‘bespoke’ practices which are adapted to the individual needs of each parcel in order to produce authentic wines which are a true reflection of their terroir. Each bottle bears the stamp of its climat (Hengst, Pfersigberg, Steingrubler, Rosenberg, Leimental, Clos Sand, Herrenweg) in keeping with generations of family tradition.
